In a small Tennessee town, two unlikely souls are about to be lured together at the sticky crossroads between rage and love. Found lying on the side of the road, beaten and nearly dead, is Rae (Christina Ricci), a 22-year-old who has developed a reputation around town for having an insatiable "itch" for sex. Her rescuer is Lazarus (Samuel L. Jackson), an ex-blues guitarist who has grown used to life’s relentless strains of trouble and sorrow. Desperate for a change himself, Lazarus holds Rae prisoner, and sets out to "cure" her of her wicked ways. But to get to the deep, dark bottom of Rae’s mystery, Lazarus will first have to face the demons that reside in both their hearts, especially when Rae’s one true love Ronnie (Justin Timberlake), a Guardsman who was supposed to be headed for Iraq, comes looking for her. Basically you have a film with Samuel and Chrisina ricci in chains! ____________________________________________________________________________ POST SYNOPSIS I recently watched this film and I was very surprised by how good it actually was. My initial reason for watching it was much like most peoples would have been. However behind the sex and Christina Ricci permanently walking around in minimal clothing (Which the film does delivery on). It is a deeply emotional and engrossing story which reflects on common problems in modern society. Samuel Jackson as always pulls off a great performance and his character delivers some soul inspiring blues on his guitar. The films negative aspects for me consist of its religious rantings, but again I t cannot be criticized because it reflects so accurately society and the need for something to turn too in times of need. I came away from this film with a myriad of emotions an I expect others to get different things from it because it has a lot to offer. All in all a gripping story and engrossing watch. **** 4 STARSRead full review
Ok, I hold my hands up! I bought this because I saw the poster of Samuel L Jackson holding a very scantily clad Christina Ricci in chains! I mean what red blooded male would not want to see that movie! And if all you want is a couple of hours of scantily clad Christina Ricci then you are gonna love this movie to bits!!! That said, once I'd got about a 3rd of the way through it and my pulse had slowed down a enough to think straight I began to enjoy it for completely different reasons. The plot is a recently divored, very bitter, very religious ex blues guitarist (guess who plays that part) rescues a young girl. When he finds out she is the town bike he tries to make her 'see the error of her ways' and 'smite the evil within her'. Craig Brewer again delivers the 'South' into our living rooms in a way that feels honest and real It has humour, pathos and sexuality and understanding. He manages to deal with subjects such as race, sexual abuse, Promiscuouity and poverty without pushing. Whether you want to see plenty of Christina or an excellently crafted film with superb acting, Either way, I recommend itRead full review
Christina Ritchi at her best with Justin Timerbake supplying the eye candy. Well worth a view, a gripping tale of a young girl who has been abused through the years and only thinks that men are after one thing. She gets beaten up and left for dead to be saved by a kindly man who helps her to get back on the right path. Excellent.
great film
