There are various guides for the repair on YouTube but common sense will get you through. I removed all the screws for the side guide rails leaving just one at the top and bottom. I then unwound the tension off the spring using a spanner, screw driver and allen key. You can then get to the cones without the fear of sudden rotation of any brackets as I had to ease mine off the woodwork. A small piece off wood under the door will keep the height correct. Once the cones are changed you can wind the tension back onto the spring.

Great product cheap as chips. Replaced both sides of Wicke's garage door cables. Easy enough to do for some one with minimal mechanical skills.

Priced at about £55 from local spares shop. Service pack came with cones and cables for both sides, which was great - right side (looking out of the garage) had snapped. My friend who understands these things, sorted it all out in an hour and a half, including the left side, which was frayed part way through.

Saved some £65 doing this job myself, look up how to do it on YouTube. My doors were very tight for space on the sides so I had to come up with my own method of working. Took 2 hrs start to finish and 30 mins of that was very carefully tensioning the spring. After applying loads of WD40 to all the mechanism and spring the door glides up and down like a dream, sorted.
