What a superb CD. 28 tracks of early R&B and not a filler track in sight. Best track: "Mathilda" - Cookie & His Cupcakes. Other highlights: check out the original versions of "Let's stick together" - Wilbert Harrison (covered by Roxy Music), "I'm a lover not a fighter" - Lazy Lester (covered by Rolling Stones) and "Go now" - Bessie Banks (covered by Moody Blues); listen to "Shake a tail feather" - 5 Du-Tones (even better than James & Bobby Purify's version); marvel at Johnny Nash's version of "Ol' man river" and have a jive to "Over and over" - Bobby Day. In fact, there's not a track on the CD that I don't like. Marvelous nostalgic music from the late 50s through to the mid-60s.

The original sounds of northern soul, popcorn and r&b. It's easy to understand why the songs on this CD were club favorites. Terrific stuff. My favs: "Confidential" by Sonny Knight, "Billy's Rag" by Billy Preston, and "Go Now" by Bessie Banks—boy, did the Moody Blues rip her off! Another recommendation.
