Well, it's about time
Itl is the eleventh Depeche Mode studio album, and the 1st to include songs written by Dave Gahan. "Playing the Angel" was recorded in Santa Barbara and produced by Ben Hillier. Recommended.

This is my favorite band. Fantastic music, writing words and melodies excellent album. The album includes versions of DVD with 5.1 sound, photo gallery, Jacqueline song acoustic performance since 1990, plus a documentary about making a studio album.

Depeche Mode in actually quite good album shock!
Having given up on Depeche Mode well over a decade ago, imagine my surprise when one day whilst reading the paper in a cafe', I heard Martin and David's familiar voices over music that actually captured my attention. I have to say I am not the biggest fan of the albums they did from the 90's - Black Celebration being, in my opinion, their dark masterpiece, and this is by no means a return to that period, but it sits just below that threshold, alongside Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion. Not sure what my faves are, but the second half with all the quieter ones was what sold the CD to me. The DVD, which I will probably never watch again, is a nice addition if only to hear the guys' very British accents, in contrast with their US rock gods posture of the past 15 years. (fans only)

No need for angels? DM alive and well.
Depeche mode at their best! Album is the usual mix of hard construction theme and slower melodies - many seem instantly memorable, with others vaguely familiar of the early years. If you love 101 you'll enjoy this - although at times the use of a 'white noise' effect tests the car speakers (and my ears). **The best bit is that the entire album is also on the DVD - so I can have the CD in the car and put the DVD through my surround sound - MEGA!!. DVD also includes the 'Precious' video and 'Clean'.
