Fallout 3 (on any platform) has got to be one of the standout games of the 21st century. A huge dystopian sci-fi adventure, set in the blasted landscape of post-nuclear war Washington DC, it is possessed of true moral ambivalence and grim humour. Part of a slow development process from the original isometric Fallout through the more kinetic approach of the Elder Scrolls series, it's the parent of Skyrim and a tribute to its creators. For more detailed reviews, see: http://uk.ign.com/games/fallout-3/pc-568806 or http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/fallout-3-review The interface was originally designed for PC, but the shift to the XBox controller has been done well, though you will spend a lot of time scrolling in menus, swapping and using items, levelling up and so on - it's an adventure game, after all. Combat can be done by traditional if relatively inaccurate "point-and-click", or you can use the custom V.A.T.S (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System) - a queuing attack system inspired partly by the ability to shoot specific body parts in the turn-based combat system of Fallout and Fallout 2. But V.A.T.S. is also used for a cinematic combat experience, triggering bloody and occasionally shockingly funny video sequences - well worth the extra time it requires and more likely to produce a takedown. The other element of Fallout 3 that makes it a stand-out game is the sheer moral ambivalence of the story - at many points you are forced into game choices that not only impact the game but also your sense of yourself. Save the town or destroy the town and everyone in it? Save the children or sell them to slavers? It's not often you find yourself wondering if you "did the right thing" in a game. And the game is vast; a huge map that only exposes itself as you wander the Wasteland finding new towns and places of interest, peopled with settlers, bandits, refugees, lunatics, governments, robots and rebels a- nd a wicked variety of radiation-mutated Wasteland creatures all intent on killing and eating you. If your not a fist-person shooter finger twitcher and you haven't played Fallout 3 (and it's add-on packs and sequel, Fallout - New Vegas) you have a treat in store.Read full review

I bought this game so it was easy for me to remain occupied whilst having my summer break. Putting it briefly this game is well made beautifully presented surprising well bare it in mind its a good four plus years old. The story can give you very little if you only go through the main plot, but if you explore and do the side quests it does a brilliant job, explaining what happens, in the Capital Wasteland. Character dialogue is good and every character reacts differently to certain things. Overall expect around 12 hours from the main story add another 24-48hrs depending on how much detail you go into.
