QV stamps collecting? no alternatives! this is the only way!
penny black, penny red, two pence blue: these have always been a dream for a young italian stamp collector like me in the sixties. just a dream and no possibility to get any of them with a normal, small budget to deal with. fifty years later (today)and eBay easily at my disposal the dream disappeared and I started to see the offers on-line at reasonable prices but with so many variables concerning postmarks, watermarks, plates, alphabets, dies, positions, perforation, conditions, margins ...... with the only result of headakes and more confusion! I then realized that without a catalogue I could continue to dream of pennyblacks & co! so I started a research on catalogues of british stamps and found stanley gibbons 2011 concise in offer and I got it. but queen victoria stamps are not that easy, therefore I looked for the specialized "Queen Victoria" by Stanley Gibbon. result: I am beginning to understand postmarks, watermarks, plates, alphabets, dies, positions, perforation, conditions, margins and whatever concerns these lovely stamps! attention please, it's still not easy, at seventy, to take all of it. it takes time ... and my eyes, the language, the age are not helping me: the results are coming and I am slowly improving my knowledge of QV stamps! I like this catalogue, the way it is organized and I hope in the next few (how many?)years to get to know a good lot about pennyblacks and pennyreds and twopenceblues! only that? good enough at my age! satisfied? yes thanks a lot for the attention!Read full review
