This is the second one of these printers that I have bought. For the price they produce good quality print in black and in colour. They work just as well with a Linux operating system as with Windows, which is one reason why I like them. The first one that I had would work with re-manufactured cartridges just as well as with originals. The second one will not work with re-manufactured black, but the colour is OK. Photo printing can be very good, but only with the original cartridges, otherwise it is a bit hit and miss.
This is a very versatile printer with lots of functions like printing photos on photographic paper, inkjet printing on paper, envelope printing etc. It is a good size too, does take up too much space & you can get at ink cartridges quite easily when the need arises for them to be changed. One function it hasn't got and that it can't scan but hopefully that shouldn't put off any would-be buyer. I bought this for my parents computer as their last one packed up.I liked the look of it & the way you can plug in cameras & any memory cards to print off photos etc. HP are a very good make so I do recommend this printer.
It is a good product I need to buy a printer cartridge to print photos so watch this space .

This is a very good and indeed smart machine. I only had a small issue at the start with. I have a win 7 OS, and I placed the installion CD in the DVD unit and start install the driver. When it's ran, shortly came a warning dialog window about the system compatibility issue, and stopped installing the driver. I checked some forum about it. Those was really helpful. I had been previously uninstalled the wrong driver with those forums help. And then I ran the win update program, to find a compatible driver for the printer. It did found a proper driver for the printer. After I done a two or three trial prints I finally set it up the machine adequately for my needs. It working fine, print a good photo quality pictures. The outlooks this machine is simple and friendly, small enough to fit on a small chair (what is inappropriate for a human to sit on it). It is really smart, especially the memory card and USB slots with, on front. It not need to connect to a PC (but I prefer to use the direct cabel connection with my PC) to print your photos. The ink what it use it's sinking in the photopaper and the surface what it makes is touch, and waterproof (anyway I always I do laminate my prints for protect those). The price was cheap in its cathegory where I bought from. I just prized this machine! It is do good quality, and good service! Only a small drawback what I noticed: Sometimes the printer leave some hardly inconspicuous faded lines on the prints. What is noticable when you watch the picture from very close, I mean less than three-four inches close. From a greater distance these marks are inconspicuous. PS.: I apologize any grammar mistakes in my review I'm not English nationality.Read full review
I bought this because an older but different HP model failed after years of good service and I still had 2 packs of ink cartridges left unopened. This printer uses the same cartridges. So I didn't lose out on my investment on inks. But it does raise the question - "Why do printer manufacturers have so many different cartridge types? Surely they can reduce them to a basic few: One for the 'all in colour' cartridge plus the single black type of printer. Another for the printers using individual colour cartridges. And of course the photo cartridge."
