Firstly a word of warning , this book ...will make you green with envy. It shows a number of layouts and also includes a few "step by step" guides on , for example , how to build the village inn from a simple plastic kit. But of course being a book that shows what can be achieved by hours and hours of hard work the village inn is not simply "stuck together" and plonked into place. It is fitted our with floors , fittings , furniture and people. This is not to put anyone off buying it , it shows what can be done and if you are someone who is looking to construct your own layout it is both helpful and challenging but if you just like looking it is also worth it as the pictures are works of art in themselves.
My first train... set was over fifty years ago, and since then, I have not had the money, space, or time for another...until now. So having been a fan of all things Hornby, I thought I'd catch up by having a look at a year book. (They always used to be called annuals) This does not disappoint in any way. There are 'how to build' with easy to understand instructions, and even if you could not read English, you could not fail to be impressed by the incredible photography. Its also a hard back, which is, for me, another bonus. It is in fact very much like the annuals of yesteryear. It is also something which I can refer to, again and again. If you are just starting out in the world of model railways,or an old hand, I would heartily recommend this book. Well done Hornby, and long may you continue to make wonderful trains, and annuals, sorry, year books.
Very ...interesting book. Lovely colour photographs. Very informative text. a mature schoolboy's delight!
