Ideal. Definitely. I sought out this DVD based on the background I had on the cast, production company, and the show's creator, Graham Duff... But little did I expect to get completely hooked by the 2nd episode. (Notably, I went through odd pangs of withdrawals until the 2nd series arrived on DVD two weeks later, to put it bluntly...) Best said, it is a very strong ensemble cast with a beautifully noir sense of humor as an undercurrent, and some very nice and poignant moments throughout. Gravel-voiced Johnny Vegas makes for a likeable "protagonist", even as a small time hash dealer living in chaos and squalor in Salford. There is a given on this show that every character has their own defects and no one comes across as a hero or villain. I would recommend this to anyone willing to sit through a marathon of "The Royle Family" (for the beautifully understated approach to the dialogue and humor) back to back with "Pulp Fiction" -- as there is an undercurrent of mayhem violence in the show that might upset the faint of heart... And the soundtrack is absolutely top shelf in my book. Experimental and post-contemporary artists (excellent theme song by Candidate, plus Wire/Colin Newman, Lobe, Le Tigre, Broadcast, Chem 7) all make these favorite tracks in a favorite series. Not to be missed.Read full review

I bought this DVD as the first series seems so very long ago and realising what a great 'unique' comedy this is thought i had better add it to my collection. Great weird and wonderful characters-the humour dips into the 'darkside'and takes serious turns- Great to watch this first series to see how it all began!
