Pond & Fountain Pumps

Nothing livens up a garden like a water feature. Whether you want to create a wildlife pond for insects, frogs and fishes or an elegant Romanesque fountain, you're going to need a pump to keep the water circulating.

Pond & fountain pumps are a reliable way of keeping water flowing and that's vital for both the look and functionality of your water feature. Ponds need a constant supply of oxygenated water to allow creatures to breathe and plants to flourish, while fountains need to keep the water cascading if they are going to have any kind of visual impact. Choose a pump that has the right amount of power and the right accessories and attachments to do the job.

Choose the Right Flow Rate

A vital consideration when choosing pumps for your pond or fountain is the desired flow rate. Each pump states the number of litres per hour (LPH) that it can pump, ranging from a low flow of around 350 litres per hour to high-performance pumps that can move over 10,000 litres per hour. The rate you need will depend on your water feature. As a general rule, you want to select a pump rate that is equivalent to half the volume of your pond. So, for a small pond of 2,000 litres, a 1,000 LPH pump will be sufficient. For large waterfalls and powerful cascades, you will need something more powerful.

You also need to decide if you want a submersible pump or an external one. Pumps that can be submerged under the water are quieter and often cheaper. On the other hand, an external pump is likely to undergo less wear and tear making them a long-lasting choice. They are often more energy efficient as well.

Accessories

Make sure your pump comes with the relevant nozzle or attachment that you need. For example, if you are creating a fountain, you will need a fountainhead attachment.
