Looking up at my CD shelf, I must say this little black box makes me smile.
INTRO For many Kate Bush fans, this is the Holy Grail of Kate. And given that they like Kate Bush, they are not averse to the odd Quest for the Grail. This Woman's Work Box Set contains Kate Bush's first 6 albums on CD and 2 bonus CDs of B-sides from the days of vinyl singles and hard to get stuff. Including her Christmas single! WHY BUY? I reckon there are two varieties of collectors - people who want to hear all the music that an artist made, and people who want to have every record they released. I would be in the former group - I want to explore the entire output of my favourite artists, but have no desire to own their Indonesian-only compilation albums or Soviet era Romanian releases with alternative covers. (But I would pay good money for a tape that was copied off a dictaphone held in the crowd at a concert where a surprise guest came on stage and duetted an out of key Hendrix tribute!) I bought this because I have the first 6 albums on vinyl only, and because I wanted to hear all the odd stuff I hadn't heard before on the two special discs. COST Anyway, after much deliberation I decided to buy this, having spent 8 years regretting not buying it in a record shop in the USA where there was no sales tax and massive discretionary discounts from the friendly staff. Good condition Kate Bush Box Sets go on ebay for about £70-90 and I got this for about half way in the range. Condition and postage was excellent. If you are shopping for this second hand, a well preserved copy will have an intact sheet of stickers included. CONTENT A surprise here - it's not the lovingly curated box sets that people get for Christmas, although to be fair, it dates back to a time when CDs were still quite new. The 6 studio CDs are just the regular CDs, in plastic cases, that you can get new for a few quid, and second hand on ebay for about the cost of the postage. They have original looking sleeves, and CD label printing. In other words, there doesn't seem to be anything special about them. The bonus track discs are completely new sleeves and CD labelling, with various vintage photos on the sleeve art. And you won't easily find the material on them, and a lot of it you probably won't legally find on CD. I think a modern box set would have the bonus tracks added on to the studio album closest to the time they were released, but this way you get to hear them in a different context. There is a nice booklet and some stickers. The amusing thing is Kate Bush's sleeve notes where she says she hardly believed that when she released her first album, she never imagined a box set of her work would be out 12 years later. I think we never imagined that 20 years after that, she would only have released another 2 albums, but that's what makes this all the more special. CONCLUSIONS All you need to start a Kate Bush collection. You could do it less expensively if you just wanted the actual albums and bought them second hand, and you can sometimes pick up bootleg copies of the rarities CDs if you were that way inclined. But when you look up at the CD shelf, I must say that this little black box makes me smile. Read full review

kate bush this woman's work
an excellent set of cd's that are a must for any kate bush fan. this woman has been away too long and her recent cd shows what we have all been missing. however, her motives for this delay are commendable as your family mean more than anything. i just hope her next offering is not so long in the making. an excellent retrospective offering.

This woman's work anthology-Kate Bush
This wss always something i was "going to buy" but never did until recently. Though it is true you san buy some of the CD's seperately the 2 you can't buy are, in my opinion, superb. the main thing you have to remember is yhis is an anthology of her work and is only ever likely to contain some or all CD's that she has already released but if a keen fan you'd buy it anyway.

Kate Bush- This Womans Work.
If your a Kate Bush fan youve already got this, includes 2 Cd,s which are exclusive to the box set but doesnt justify the price. Dont get me wrong the musics superb but most cd,s are available individually at budget prices now. Wasnt clear it was really just all previous cd,s in a box.
