I'm a massive Katy Perry fan anyway and loved her first album, One of The Boys. I was a little apprehensive that Teenage Dream wouldn't live up to my expectations, but it surpassed them! From the moment of opening the case, you're struck by the very pleasant candy scent that the album has been specially varnished with. I can't praise the ingenuity and creativity of Mrs. Brand/Ms. Perry enough!! Not only does the originality explode within her music, but extends to every aspect of the work. It's quite hard to STOP sniffing the album, it smells so good! Perhaps with this and her perfume "PURR", Katy has found another calling! What I love about Katy's music is that she is a supremely talented song-writer too. The words MEAN something, and you can nearly always relate to any given song, whether that's a current situation or a situation you've been in previously. Yet, at the same time as the lyrics touch you and move you (ie "Firework", "Pearl" etc), they're interspersed with songs that lift your mood and make you laugh ("Last Friday Night (TGIF)" and "Peacock" are perfect examples). You can really feel her personality coming through and saying "HI! I'm Katy Perry!!" and I love that her sweet, quirky and down-to-earth persona can be felt through every song. There's something for everyone and with songs like "Last Friday Night" and "Peacock" sitting alongside "The One That Got Away" and "Who Am I Living For?", whatever mood you're in, you'll want to pull out this album, knowing there's a song for you. There's the songs for heartbreak and lost love like "The One That Got Away"; there's the songs to soundtrack your girly nights out with "Last Friday Night", "California Gurls" and "Peacock"; there's songs to say exactly how you feel about your other half in "Teenage Dream" and "Hummingbird Heartbeat" and there's the fiesty tunes to blast out for when you're annoyed or needing a bit of a power ballad with "Circle The Drain" and "Who Am I Living For". No pigeonhole-ing with this FABULOUS album! She stays true to her pop-tastic personality throughout, yet still manages to play with various different sounds. They're not all, "oh, that sounds exactly the same as the last song", with songs like "Circle The Drain", "Who Am I Living For?" and "ET" switching up the sounds and darkening the ultra-colourful album to provide fresh sounds. Every song is supremely catchy, right from track one to track twelve. I've had the full album on repeat for three months now and simply can't get bored of any of the songs! One of the best albums I've bought and even my not-so-Katy-Perry-addicted friends have thoroughly enjoyed the album, going out and buying it themselves. Not a surprise then, that the Teenage Dream album has gone Platinum, with songs "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream" hitting DOUBLE PLATINUM! All this from a spectacular woman who who signed and dropped numerous times from different record labels as a teenage gospel singer. Congratulations Katy, you deserve all the success you've fought so hard for! AmyliaRead full review
