'Lake District Folk' is a nostalgic look back at a lifetime's association with the Lake District. Through countless interviews and years of walking the fells and valleys, W. R. Mitchell has recalled some of his most vivid memories. It is a glimpse into a way of life that has changed with the passing of time but which still retains a magical appeal.
W. R. 'Bill' Mitchell is an authority on the Lake District. He has been recording its way of life for sixty years, principally through his work for 'Cumbria', a magazine which he edited for over thirty years. Bill has written over two-hundred books and countless articles through his career. These have covered areas such as Yorkshire, Scotland and the Settle-Carlisle Railway as well as the Lake District. In 1996 he was awarded an MBE for his services to journalism and, in the same year, an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by the University of Bradford.
