Has 2 usb sockets at top (1 for power in). So, effectively, you don't "loose a socket" if you use this. 2 joined parts 1 - Black plastic base frame. 2 - Some sort of metal with lots of holes (almost like a sieve) as the panel on which laptop sits. Two fold down if unneeded "foot stops" to stop laptop sliding off the bottom if angle selection too steep. Rear can be raised in 6 increments from flat to a height of 12cm (4 & 3/4inches). Reasonably sturdy but I wouldn't perch my granny on it. Cooling....... The layout of fans (4 small in corners and 1 big in middle) suits - a little - my laptop base vent location. Sort of. At "full on" (dial in top selects fan speed an brightness of purposeless blue led) i get some assistance in air flow. But.... Opening the laptop, vacuuming out the dust and replacing the cpu/gpu fan will get much, much better results. Because it is the Flow of air THROUGH the laptop that causes cooling. AND Inside laptops everything runs at 5 volts (or less). Thus - the cpu fan(s) inside are running with the same energy as this (or any other USB-based) external cooler. Maybe one USB vacuum unit at the output vent and one of these at the input vent will give you up to 10C cooler. Maybe. A 240volt 16inch diameter floor standing fan, on lowest setting, 2 feet away from the vent, gave me a temp reduction of 25C. i wanted a surreptitious device to lift and angle my laptop. Better than a bunch of books or some other precarious arrangement this suits and looks as though it is meant to be there. If I ever were to put my 15inch laptop on my lap then this device provides reasonable separation between me and the laptop. So I guess I would feel comfortable. Last..... If you are chasing 10C+ cooling because your laptop is overheating (check working range of your cpu & gpu) then you would be better advised to resolve the overheating problem rather than attempt one of these as a bandaid. Great reduction claims are snake oil and you will note that only reviewers (none of the vendors) make these claims. Why? Because a vendor would be required to provide proof and a reviewer can give (as I have done) their personal experience and opinion.Read full review

It worked, but it's TOO NOISY. It will be an embarrassment to try and use it in a library.
