Very impressed with this amp, I have used lots of different makes over the years, some of which have cost a great deal more than this PM6005. I can honestly say that this amp is one of the best I've used, great at its rrp, exceptional at the price I paid. Strongly recommended.

If you are looking for High Quality, useability and overall value ..........
My good chum wanted to use a Multi Region Blu Ray player by playing it through his tried and trusted somewhat elderly Marantz Hi-Fi amplifier. However, since Sony Blu Ray players seem to have rid themselves of phono outputs and only seem to include HDMI and Coax outputs, it was nigh on impossible to find a way to use the player with the phono inputs on the Marantz. Thus, the first class Marantz PM-6005 seemed the logical answer it including both a Coax and Optical input. It works brilliantly for the purposes that my friend required and kicks posterior in terms of sound. The cost of the amp belies the superb sound that it presents and if, like my pal, you do not wish to dabble in the world of the 'Home Cinema AV' amp then this will certainly tick your boxes.

Delighted with the sound, its spacious with great imagery, music just bounds along with energy and fizz. Has a slight warmth that suits my taste. I can't detect any harshness untill you push it beyond its limits. I listen to heavy metal and classic rock and it goes plenty loud enough for me.

Brilliant amplifier in every way!
Back in 2014 this was awarded best amplifier by What HiFi Magazine! They weren't wrong, when it arrived I realised this was a nicely built amplifier. Once set up I was in for a shock at just how good it really is. Don't forget this won an award for all the way up to £500. I would tell anyone, buy with confidence, it's really magical and one for the hifi history books of classics IMO. AMAZING!

something out of kilter at the top end
This amp had loads of rave reviews in 2014. What HiFi etc. sang its’ praises very highly. However, to my ear and a few other independent reviewers, there is something out of kilter at the top end. There is an over slightly emphasised sibilance that is a little fatiguing after an extended listening session. I think it is this artificial crispness that may have influenced the magazine reviewers. It also sounds very similar to the PM-6004. The PM-6004 also had rave reviews so there may be a little of thinking along lines of "well the 6004 sounds good so the 6005 must be good as well"? It seems that the only difference between this and the earlier PM-6004 is the addition of a (very good indeed) digital input. There is a choice of two extra inputs here, optical SPDIF and phono coaxial. Overall at £250 it is still a super amplifier. Read full review
