Supernatural armies of Good and Evil, Light and Darkness, gear up to do battle with each other. Set on the modern streets and subways of Russia and harkening back to brutal medieval days, these blood-suckers, changelings and bloodthirsty urban heroes are locked together in an apocalyptic battle for the ages. We learn that in the year 1342, the Warriors of Light and Darkness met in a fight on a bridge, so bloody was their carnage that it appeared both teams of Others (so called, I think, because they are not Sames) would lose all of their warriors. But it was not to be; Gesser and Vavulon, the leaders of Light and Darkness, established a truce which holds until present day in Moscow 1992, when a new Other is born whose existence may reopen the ancient struggle.

I bought this product because I had seen the movie before and liked the concept of a truce between good and evil. The good, creatures of light, watch and keep the peace at night while the creatures of dark keep watch during the day. This dvd also came with a free preview disc of "The Omen" This made it a particularly good buy.
I first saw the back half of this movie on Channel 4 and thought that I must get it on DVD and then forgot about it. It was only when I bought the sequel "Day Watch" that I remembered the first film in this trilogy and bought it on Ebay. This is a truly excellent movie set in a dark world where the forces of good and evil co-exist and fight for power. Imagine "The Matrix" "Underworld" and "Blade Runner" rolled into one and you have this movie. An amazing example of modern Russian Cinema, I wholeheartedly recommend this movie. Make sure you get the sequel "Day Watch" as well which is now out on DVD.
nightwatch is a russian film set in moscow about people called others with abilities that sets them appart from normal humans, nightwatch is part of a trilogy of films, the second is called daywatch, the third is rumoured to be called twilight watch, but since it isn`t made yet that does not matter, the first two films complete each other and i recommend you get both films to fully understand what is going on in the films, the story line is based around a guy called anton who is trying to get his wife back, but instead he become an other and he ends up saving the world, he also loses his son which sets into play a series of advents that threaten to destroy the world in daywatch the chalk of fate, the acting is different to anything from hollywood, and you need to keep this in mind when you watch this film, and the effects and special effects are first class, this film has a scene where a car drives across a glass hotel and gets parked in a room, but the way it is shown is absolutly stunning, and the film is worth buying just for this scene alone, the film stars Konstantin Khabenskiy as anton, Vladimir Menshov as gesser, Mariya Poroshina as svetlana, and zhanna friske as alice.Read full review
This film is the first of a trilogy, Its got amazing special effects. the story line is quite differant from the book, but show me a film that isnt. Well worth a look, especially if you like less than mainstream films. Its a standard kind of film about good and evil, light and dark, it took me 2 viewings to really make sense of it, but now i am an avid fan and cant wait for the second part to hit the big screen later this year. Watch it and i promise you will not be dissapointed
