Wonderful, sad, funny, a book to read again and again.
Wonderful. Moving, sad, funny, and a marvellously intricate technique, providing information based on clues not yet given. Jane Gardam is always a gorgeously satisfying writer, plain clear prose, descriptions of often taken for granted small natural things bringing them scorchingly to mind. I loved this. and have read almost all of her other work. Will now begin to read this book again, for all the tiny bits that I missed the first time. Thank you, again and again, to the author. Whose 'receiving mail' address I have tried to find, now and previously, to express my gratitude for her beautiful and continuing work.
