I've only had this lens 2 weeks so I haven't tried it in many situations, though first impressions are that its good value for money, certainly sharp enough at both ends of the zoom range for general photography, though tried flower close-ups and its not as good as a true macro lens, but then wouldn't have expected that in this price range. It's described as un-boxed and I can see no fault other than the rubber grip on the focussing ring, appears to be movable as it was skew whiff when I had it, but this doesn't affect the manual adjustment, mostly I will be using AF in any case. Overall this is a very useful zoom that doesn't cost a lot and doesn't weigh too heavy around your neck !

Although this 18-135 WR was at a good price, there is some kind of problem with the SDM or electronic system, batteries are drained very fast and mirror lock-ups are very common. Could just be this version, a screwdrive conversion might be better. Not impressed.

18-135 is a good everyday lens with all the zoom you usually need. Zooming to 200 or more carries weight and quality penalties. Buy a long focus zoom if you want to photograph sport or birds, and leave it at home if you aren't using it. You will need a tripod anyway. Pentax proprietary lens better than multifit systems, plus also lighter. Pentax system of anti-shake on camera body rather than the lens reduces lens weight and is better thought out than Canon or Nikon.

A very usefull go anywhere lens, paired with my Pentax K-5iis makes for a great general purpose camera, especially in terms of landscapes. With the added benefit of weather resistance to go with the WR camera, makes for an ideal companion on hikes and walks.

A really nice lens with whisper quiet focussing it locks on to subject really quickly. The sort of lens to just leave on your camera and go walkabout safe in the knowledge 'You brought the right lens'. I've teamed it with a Tamron 10-24 and the Pentax 55-300 PLM for the big days out and I'm really happy with them all. If your thinking about buying one then I'd recommend this lens highly.
