The best thing about the Panasonic DMC TZ-18 is the Leica Lens which captures images beautifully and the fact that it is truly a pocket camera which is easy to take anywhere. I bought mine second hand for £55 and it arrived in immaculate condition. It can be used fully automatically, in program mode, aperture mode or shutter mode which gives you some flexibility and it is much faster to focus and zoom than my phone particularly indoors at parties etc. I just wish compact camera makers could sort out their flashes which are inevitable too bright and bleaching. However, this is great for the price and well worth it if you want backup for your main camera or just something more portable which has a bit more flexibie than your phone.

Leica lens, Panasonic quality build, both hard to better. Great wide angle, great zoom. Image stabilization excellent, though a steady hand helps a lot. Good in dim light. Not idiot proof (nothing is) and you can improve your shots enormously by learning a little photography technique. Resting the camera on (eg) a wall or parapet and using the timer gets great night shots. Likewise church ceilings at maximum zoom: use the timer, camera on the floor.

I have previously used a TZ6, so I knew what to expect. The TZ18 has a more powerful zoom and an even bigger display. The high quality lens by legendary camera builder Leica was my main reason for buying this camera. 16x zoom lens plus electronic image stabilisation means that far away images can be captured with amazing clarity. The camera can be left on 'intelligent auto' for easy picture taking or there are lots of manual settings which can be made.
I bought this camera for my son as a Christmas present after he had his stolen in Dublin recently. I chose this camera because I own a different model of the same brand and it's brilliant. It appealed to me because it's brand new and the seller is in the UK so I bought it and had it sent directly to Ireland which saved me postage and time. My son is very impressed with all its qualities e.g., 16X optical zoom,its compact qualities and appearance, its simplicity of use, versatility for photographing still and moving objects and as a movie camera. I recommend thorough research before any purchase, not only of product but also of the seller and consideration of feedback from their previous sales. I have been very happy with this ourchase.
I bought this camera because I previously owned the TZ20, which I managed to loose. I am not bothered about the touch screen, this is too fidely, and the GPS although useful, its another thing you have to remember to switch off before flying. All in all I believe the TZ18 is better than the TZ20. The lense is very good giving excellent depth of field and good quality colours. The zoom is very good. The size, weight and operation of the camera are all just right.
