This is an honest review despite the fact that, like most of my generation, I regard Debbie as an icon and the band as a milestone in my early life. So I listen to the album fully aware that I am cutting the band a lot of slack. However, despite this, you should buy the record if you ever liked anything the band did. Pollinator is genuinely a very energetic and fresh sounding pop album which rewards repeated listening to at least most of the tracks. It comes in massively with Doom Or Destiny, one of the heaviest sounding records the band has ever made, great vocals, great lyrics. Then you get a section of singles including Long Time which is absolutely excellent, Fun which is good but not to the same extent and sandwiched between them Already Naked which is absolutely terrific and manages to evoke their 1970s sound without being dated. The fact that Ms Harry can continue to sing about sex and falling in love when her 60s are in the rearview mirror doesn't come off at all creepy because, well, it's her. The CD goes on from there with a couple of fillers I guess and then finishes off with Fragments which is long, complex and redolent of a sweaty night at the Marquee in 1979, complete with minimalist keyboard hooks and a brilliant change of pace out of nowhere. If I could give this 9/10 I would although one out of 10 of those marks would be because it's Blondie, nonetheless this is a solid four-star record and will make you happy over the summer.
