This is a quality film don't get me wrong an...d would be good viewing for anyone, who hasn't previosly seen this movie. Saying that, its not a movie you would watch again, but thats down to your own opinion. Having viewed the film for the first time I was quite impressed and was attracted to it by the main characters, who to me are Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan. It is usually important to me when choosing a film to watch that I have heard of the actors, who star in it, unless I have heard some rave reviews from friends or colleagues. In this film Meg Ryans' husband is kidnapped and held to ransom by some sort of militant organisation. I am not sure what country it is in again, but I am pretty sure it is in South America and the government in the country concerned is pretty non-existent, it has no real organisation and these militant group carry out these kidnap plots on a regular basis targeting the wealthiest people they can and then holding out for a ransom. Usually the only possible solution for the safe return of the kidnappee is to pay the ransom, but in this particular film Russell Crowe plays an intelligence officer, who decides to help the family out. It is a gripping and tense thriller, but don't expect too much from it and therefore you won't be disappointed. The title "Proof of Life" comes from the contact made with the militant group to ask them to provide a proof of life i.e the hostages voice, before any payment of a ransom will even be discussed. Well worth viewing although my rating of 3/5 is probably accurate!
Good films are hard to find these days. Great films are bey...ond rare. Proof of Life, Russell Crowe's one-two punch of a deft kidnap and rescue thriller, is one of those rare gems. A taut drama laced with strong and subtle acting, an intelligent script, and masterful directing, together it delivers something virtually unheard of in the film industry these days, genuine motivation in a story that rings true. Proof of Life is a thinking man’s action movie. It is a film about the choices men and women make in the face of love and war, and the sacrifices one makes for those choices -- the sacrifices that help you sleep at night.
This is a excellent fil...m , and worth every penny you spend , despite what the snitchy critics say.It is superbly informitive , and well acted. The plot is that a engineer in South America is kidnapped. The ransom is 3 million Us dollars. His company should be insuring him , but due to cuts , there policy was scratched. So que Terry Thorne[ Russel Crowe ] and ex- SAS K&R[ Kidnap and Ransom ] negotiator. But when it all goes haywire , Thorne and his SAS mates go in to get him out. . .
This film sort of slipped under the radar as the media was mor...e interested in the relationship between the cast members i.e. Russel Crowe and Meg Ryan, but it is actually a decent film. It is a gritty and well acted drama about the kidnapping of Meg Ryans husband played by David Morse. Crowe plays the negotiator who has to arrange his release. The film has action (particularly the end) but a lot of character development, mainly between Ryan and Crowe who spend a lot of time together. But also for Morse as he is dragged through the jungle by his kidnappers and whilst Crowe is trying to facilitate his release Morse is working on his own escape. Its no oscar winner but well worth seeing.
