top movie shows how far you can push yourself!I am a big fan of war movies this one keeps you right on the edge of your seat until the end.
Rescue Dawn starring Christian Bale
Is this actor ever going to turn in a less than excellent performance?!?!? I remember hearing about this film coming out last year and having a strong interest in the genre really wanted to see it. Anyway I saw adverts recently advertising it for sale on DVD so jumped on EBay and now am writing this review. It's a story more about the human spirit than the Vietnam War, Christian Bale stars as Dieter Dengler and turns in yet another tremendous performance as a pilot shot down and then imprisoned in Laos, with an inner strength that refuses to die under some extreme conditions. On a similar parallel to his role in "The Machinist" he lost an incredible amount of weight in order to authenticate the meagre rations he was fed on in the prison camp. Steve Zahn surprised me as his felllow prisoner Duane with a fragile and vulnerable performance in a departure from his usual, in my view ,naff comedy performances of late. The story gripped me and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. In particular the scenes where the prisoners make their break from the camp, had me with my heart in my mouth! I can only recommend you see this film if you're a fan of Christian Bale or have an interest in war or prison films. Go and see it!!!!!Read full review
Rescue Dawn (DVD)
Overall i thought the film was very good as i am a big fan of movies that show and explain parts of history. It takes a while for the film to get going as the first 30 or so miniutes are basically just setting the scene. However the further the film went on the better it got. I dont think that the film is a must see and it isnt the sort of film you could watch over and over again but it is worth a watch!
Not one of Christian Bale's good films, I wouldn't watch it again! The film did not explain much of what was happening, and Bale's acting was erratic at times where he seemed to over-act the part of Dieter Dengler.
Film is a true story, a bit slow in places, but a good watch. Lots of war type scene so a bit horrific in places. The opening music is great.
