Movies based on computer games generally aren't well respected, but just because they aren't high art doesn't mean they can't be highly enjoyable. The only catch is that you need to be a fan of computer games to appreciate them. Resident Evil: Extinction is the third movie in the massively popular Resident Evil franchise, and it's probably the best one yet. Between Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Extinction, the zombie-creating T-virus has spread far beyond the doomed Raccoon City; now the human race is almost extinct (hence the title). When a convoy of survivors meets up with the genetically-altered Alice, the shadowy Umbrella Corporation does everything in its power to take them down and reclaim her; but Alice isn't giving up without a fight... Resident Evil: Extinction is part zombie movie, and part post-apocalyptic survival yarn. The big set pieces use CGI that doesn't look anything like reality, but does look very much like a computer game, which is possibly intentional--since this is a sequel to an adaptation, Resident Evil: Extinction does tend to assume a built-in audience which is already familiar with the various quirks of the franchise. If you're a fan of the games, you'll enjoy the various references to game characters and events; if not, you might feel a bit left out. It's not the best entry point to the franchise if you're a complete newcomer, but if you've seen the other films, it's a hell of a lot of funRead full review
This movie is most like the Resident Evil games it tries to emulate. The other 2 movies are ok but I sooo wanted them to be better! Why oh why do they leave out the precious piano music that haunts all of the games? Why oh why was Nemesis so blimmin' small! (He seemed a lot bigger when he was chasing me!) The world is over run now and each does what they can to survive as the Umbrella organisation desperately try to control the virus infected monsters roaming above in the wasteland once called earth, and the remaining humans just run from town to town looking for food, fuel and other unfortunate survivors. Alice is back and she's....scarier. (On a personal note I could have done without Alice's creation for these movies. For anyone out there that doesn't know, Alice has nothing to do with any of the games and was completely invented for these movies. Strangely most of the other key characters do exist in the game world.) I do tire somewhat from movie land taking what we like in a genre and trying to cash in on it in the movie format. It is seldom any good as they always feel they should alter and mess around with storylines. For the most part this is to help us along, the poor western audience who need easy explanations for everything and clues leading upto the climax and everyone can exclaim, I knew that was going to happen! If you only watched one Resident evil movie, this would be a good one as it includes he lonely feeling you are forced to feel throughout the games accompanied by the simple horrors of looking at the environment which can reveal many tragedies, leaving you to actually feel what the actor is feeling. They remembered the crows, in the games crows feature very often. Imagine what they eat in this environment, they won't be normal will they....be very quiet and move slowly....shhh.... They remembered the battered Umbrella facility. In the games you stumble across many rooms which have bourne witness to all manner of horrifying scenes, you see the evidence left behind in graphic detail and you may also be wily enough to notice the manner of the destruction and the sheer amount of blood left behind, leading you to a startling conclusion. Something new did this, something bigger and definately more dangerous than the zombies. I like this movie the best, all that was missing was the famous Resident evil save room music in the form of gentle piano and strings. I guess in this environment though, there is no save room.Read full review
Resident Evil - Extinction. Milla Jovovich is back in the third chapter of the hugely successful Resident Evil franchise! This action-packed horror film is set in the nevada desert and filled with intense special affects and more zombie terror. This is a fun and action-packed from start to finnish. I rated it Average, when really it is somewhere between average and good, around 3.5 stars out of 5. Im a massave fan of the zombie genre and there are better films out there. I also a fan of the Resident Evil games on the Playstation so this film was a must for my collection. The film itself is let down by some poor acting and it gets a bit far fetched in places. The endding is just one example, but i wont spoil it by telling you how it ends. This shudd`nt stop you from purchasing this film. A must for zombie fan fans as the zombie are in their thousandsRead full review
