Ringo Starr - Beaucoups Of Blues
Had been trying to get this album for years and had given up until I saw it on youtube recently and realised it had been released on CD. Ringo in his early years. Makes a good job of about most of the songs and sounds like he is out of key in some. However I bought it for Beacoups the Blues and he does it superbly. Again if you are a ringo fan then is is worth buying
Beaucoups of blues
The strangest thing about this album is that Ringo totally pulls it off. A country album, recorded in Nashville, and sounding every inch of it, this is certainly no novelty record. The songs sound like standard southern tales of woe that have been doing the rounds for years, but were in fact written by relatively unknown writers for this project. No rock and roll production here, but a credit to the hidden talents of an often overlooked Beatle. If one heard this for the first time in some trashy diner in Tennessee, it would certainly not sound out of place, and a pity Ringo didn't pursue this avenue further, as it would certainly have been an improvement on his late 70's output. Those Beatlemaniacs with an ear for a melody ( or too much time on their hands) might recognize the violin counter melody from "Love dont last long" re-appearing on "6 o'clock" on his next album, although the tracks do not share any common credits......The album became available on CD in 1995, and includes 2 bonus tracks not on the vinyl, but they are far less impressive than the beautiful Apple logo that adorns the UK disc itself. An album for the curious, the fanatics, and lovers of Scouse Country music, but avoid like the plague if you are after anything remotely rock.Read full review
