Leonard Rossiter stakes his claim as one of the finest comic actors ever over the course of these series. The support cast of Don Warrington, Frances De La Tour and Richard Beckinsale all bring finely crafted characters to the mix. The script is razor sharp and Rigsby's timing of the one liners perfect. The 1st Series is probably the standout, but even the weaker 4th series still makes most modern sitcom's appear clumsy. I have now watched every episode and will soon watch them again. The 1970's condensed into a hilarious time capsule. Social history, nostalgia and great comedy all in one box. Aside from the missing xmas episode I would like to have seen more extras. Recently bought Steptoe Best of which had interviews and biographies included. But this is a budget title on a budget label and as such represents fantastic value for money.Read full review
Rising Damp - The cream always rises to the top!!
Yes, I know they play this sort of fare all the time on freeview and satellite channels but they never play the episodes you remember or want to see again or it's always on at a time you find inconvenient to watch it. I loved this first time round and feel that time has been kind to this comedy. It does not feel too dated and the comedy is still funny as it deals with human interaction, and as we haven't changed that much in thirty years it remains relevent and appropriate for today. Leonard Rossiter was a comic genius, as proved by The Rise And Fall Of Reginald Perrin, and has been missed ever since his death. It is one of those programmes where everything and everyone came together at the right time. For the grand price of a fiver plus postage I feel that i've had a steal!!! Highly Recommended.Read full review

This Collection Is A Must !!
Excellent, thats all i can say about the complete works of Rising Damp. Classic TV which has never lost it's flavour. Nice to watch something that does not contain foul language, but has you in fits of laughter from start to finish. I do not think Leonard Rossiter got the recognition he deserved, truely an amazing actor along with all his co-stars. I could recommend this DVD set to anyone, full of entertainment. You will really enjoy it.
Ideal for collectors of classic TV sitcoms, every episode of Rising Damp is preserved on this 4-DVD set, each disc having the choice of viewing all or selected episodes thereon. Brilliantly written, and performed by a highly talented regular team, headed by Leonard Rossiter, and some superb guest stars, notably Andrew Sachs in "Great Expectations", this is well worthy of your consideration. And it's great to watch ITV programmes without having to endure those ever more tedious commercial breaks!
