Launched at the end of 2006, this W-series is one of the 1st lcd tvs on the market with FULL HD resolution (1080p). Although this makes it great for the new generation of HD and blueray dvds, and the likes of the playstation 3 when it launches - please bear in mind that other sources, including sky HD - are not yet broadcast in that high resolution. Arguably this set can be classed as being more "future ready", but unless you are going to be playing your ps3 on it all the time, i would recommeng getting a lower resolution screen capable of just 1080i (like the V-series) - as your normal lower resolution viewing will be better on it. The W does have more than ample connections, boasting 2 x hdmi, 2 x scart, 1 x componant, a pc input and side inputs for a camera or camcorder. Also consider the X-series,another full HD screen, which features the Bravia engine EX, this will help to enhance the picture quality from lower resolution feeds, which will be needed on such a large screen. Current retail price around £2500.Read full review
Although this was not a new HDMI TV I had every confidence in its reliability and picture quality and it has since proved its worth. It replaced an earlier TV of mine, the 40S, which was the first of the Sony sets that claimed HDMI capability. Unfortunately the HDMI input on these need a small board changed as Sony produced the wrong one initially. That board costs £170. I am still waiting for this and so have kept the 40" S for the bedroom and the 46" W series for the living room where Sky is installed and with excellent results. Sky claims to be putting out a 3D programme this month (April 2010) but the TV sets are not readily available yet. When they are all our TVs will need replacing. That will no doubt be followed by the new bendy screens that will cover all of the living room wall and in 3D. I look forward to that around 2016.Read full review
This TV is a super reliable set with a full HD panel. I previously had the 40" version of this TV set which was also excellent. Picture and sound are A1. It only has 2 HDMI connectors but this is enough for most people. Has 2 scarts for older equipment. It laso has an Analogue Tuner for AV2 outputs from Sky. I was heavily involved in the design of this TV and the reliability testing of it so can 100% recommend this TV.
