I am not going to lie, I was expecting a lot deeper bass after looking into specs. Levels are very well balanced, there is no domination between up's and down's. However I have to admit, that it can be a bit unsettling to hear such clear sound on high notes. In meaning- you will have to re-download your mp3's in highest quality, as you will be able to hear everything. Including grey noise and poor quality of sound. Noise cancelling- they cover ears perfectly, but I would say, that they are still safe to wear on the streets. Overall-very good, but if you're used to deep bass, try other models from Sony.

There are newer Sony headphones on the market but these still are good headphones. Some people have said the bass ain’t that good.... what utter gobblers. I would say that depends on the audio codec used/quality. I’m using iTunes V12 MP3 320kbps VBR based on Fraunhofer codec and the bass, lows, mids and highs are balanced well. They are also comfortable and the range on Bluetooth works if you left your phone downstairs, I was on a flight once walked to the toilet and left my phone behind and had no drops just the ones in the bog. Final thought. Their a good headphone however, the Bluetooth is version 3.0 and still sounds good quality like the Logitech Bluetooth receiver but unfortunately there was a 2 second lag at each beginning of a song and then when Apple released iOS 12 that disappeared. But, if you watch YouTube videos it’s well out of sync and you will need to the aux 3.5mm cable provided. Apart from that niggle you get the full function of Bluetooth and 30 hours battery life and just a small background buzz if you press pause for a short duration but these really are minor.Read full review

The Liquid crystal polymer diaphragms on these headphones are a whopping 1.6 inches in diameter, but due to this, the headphones need to be properly run-in; in-order to appreciate their sound quality. I have noted some reviews commenting on poor sound quality for a premium headphone set and initially, I agreed with this comment. But after 2 weeks of everyday use, there now is a significant change in performance these headphones, the Bass is no longer 'muddy' and highs appear more distinct and not like they were at first; muted.

Sound quality is very poor, bass is almost non existant, my Sony XB400 will piss on the MDR 1R'S. Even though the XB400's cost £50 in 2013 when MDR1R cost £250!! They do however have clear vocals if you want to listen to the news. However if you want to listen to hip hop or club music they are very flat and lifeless. Very poor bass, poor treble, vocals a bit good but nothing speacial. I am very very disappointed with these headphones i am putting them back for sale on ebay. All the other people giving high reviews of these online have probably not heard more than 3 headphones.

I was pleasantly suprised just how good these headphones were, especially when just plugged straight into my galaxy s10+. I would describe the sound they produce as slightly bright but definately in a good way, they were a perfect match with my smartphone and ran at a more than sufficent volume for my tastes, but lacked a little truth/clarity when i ran them from my denon amp, i found myself wanting the more natural sound of my sennheisers 650's. Overall though i was super impressed with this offering from Sony. 8.5/10.
