Good old super nintendo's. It...s been around 15 years since ive played one, and i absolutely adored it. I decided i'd buy one back again and let me tell you, its just as good now as it was then! After all these years they still work perfectly, which is crazy as ive gone through 3 xbox 360's now, several ps2's, countless dreamcasts, even gone through a couple of megadrives, yet the snes is still standing. Its like the Godfather of gaming. They have aged well and held their own in terms of playability. Played pilotwings and was thinking in the back of my mind it cant be as good as i remember, and it isnt. Its better. Theres so much more appreciation for it now, even just the fact you flick a switch and its loaded up and ready to play instantly. I know new technology has alot more to do than a snes, but as kids the only thing that needed to load (that i owned) was a spectrum zx. The controllers themselves are still comfortable to use, unlike N64, PS3's R2 L2 buttons, and dreamcasts wire was all wrong, yet the snes controllers are just perfect. Simplistic and easy to use. Its truly a nostalgia trip to play these old consoles, especially if your hitting your twilight years in gaming like i am. I love my 360's and ps3 (only had 1 so far) yet i would honestly give them away for a snes. Going back to your youth and simply 'playing' something which is lost in modern gaming now, people are just so aggressive, abusive, and vile towards each other, which to me doesnt say they are having fun, which is what playing is all about. Fifa and call of duty scream in my mind. While online gaming is great, and im fond of it, I dont miss it once i switch on a snes. So, ive rattled and moaned enough now, my advice to you retro fans and 30 -40 year old gamers, who know the gaming heritage, if you dont own a snes or any retro console, and you wonder if it is as good as you remember, then i suggest you get one while you can, and feel like your a kid again!
