Ooh-La-La as the French say. From acclaimed director Catherine Breillat comes this 19th century tale of lust and love, but mainly lust as young aristocrat Ryno de Marigny (Fu'ad Aït Aattou) is about to be married but cannot bear to be parted from his lover Vellini (Asia Argento) so off he gallops to keep his illicit trysts but of course tragedy is not far away. Sumptuous and sexy, the movie is a tour-de-force for all concerned. The film has French dialogue with English subtitles.

Absolutely the hottest movie that I have ever seen. After renting it several times on IFC in Theatres, I decided to buy "The Last Mistress" to save some money on my cable bill. Asia Argento is androgynously sexy as Vellini, who has you from the moment she sucks the blood from Ryno's (Fu'ad Ait Aittou) open wound. Vellini is a woman that any man cannot sexually resist. She borders on crude in this 18th century classic with her open sexuality, smoking cigars, and armpits sporting a patch of thick dark black hair. The younger womanizing Ryno has a ten year tumultuous affair with Vellini when he tries to break away by marrying the young Hermanguarde (Roxanne Mesguido). Hermanquarde, though beautiful, has no sex appeal whatsoever. She has a boyish figure and youthful innocence with a huge dowry. The only feminine character in the whole movie is Ryno. I am not sure why you cannot buy this movie in the U.S. yet. My recommendation -- but it internationally -- and share it with someone you love -- or at least someone you want. This movie is a must-have.Read full review
