After graduating from the University of Sydney in 1994, he worked in the Kimberley region of north-west Australia before moving to the United Kingdom in 1996. A period in first opinion large animal practice in the West Country followed, until in 1998, he joined the racing team at Rossdales, one of the largest equine veterinary facilities in Europe, becoming a partner of the practice in 2005. Piet maintains a busy schedule providing a comprehensive racing veterinary service to some of Newmarket's largest training yards, as well as attending major international Thoroughbred sales. He has published and lectured widely on Thoroughbred orthopaedics, respiratory disease and equine dentistry, and is a past recipient of BEVA's Richard Hartley Clinical Award. Piet's clinical research interest is the early detection and improved management of racehorse orthopaedic injuries.
