Usin the Veritas Mk.II honing system is simplicity itself, clear, concise instructions are written in a booklet inside the box, and in no time at all you can achieve the correct angle on all you chisels and plane blades. It does not matter if you use wet and dry paper stuck onto a piece of glass or diamond lapping plates, your chisels will soon have a degree of sharpness that is easy to accomplish and infinately repeatable. Proffessional woodworkers can sharpen thier chisels by hand and eye, and I envy them this ability, but for the rest of us, the Veritas Mk.II honing guide is the answer to our prayers.

I was attracted by the many positive reviews. This really does live up to the hype. Very well manufactured and designed to fit hands! makes honing/regrinding a breeze .. I had badly messed up the angles on my plane blades, not possessing the awesome skill set of the "ancient ones" who seem to be able to do this freehand. If you, like me, lack confidence, then this is MUST buy.

I am glad that I bought this honing guide because it is billiant in us and has given me a whole set of super-sharp tools. My dissapointment is the performance with chisels. The chisel and narrow tool guide is an optional extra and without it the chisel can move off square. The old Eclipse No36 that I have been using does both widths, at a fraction of the cost.

Everyone should own one of these! I'm a professional woodworker and trained the old way. Sharpening by hand is paramount and this little gadget simply helps make it just a little bit faster and more accurate. I use it mostly with the lower grit stones and final honing by hand.
