Who doesn't like lovely Joe Brow...n? He stars in this fabulous, working-class, musical tale - made and set in London in the mid-1960s - where he plays an out-of-work eighteen-year-old with secret aspirations to write and record his own songs. His Dad (played by Harry H. Corbett) is into betting on the greyhounds, while his Mum likes her Bingo - both of them hoping for a big win that would help provide a better life for their three, almost-grownup children (that's their excuse, anyway!). Singer-songwriter Marty Wilde also stars as one of Joe's mates, who's a bit of a layabout and petty thief, while lovely Susan Maughan plays Joe's love interest. Some might call it dated, and I suppose it is, in a way. It is very much a film of its time - and is extremely engaging and entertaining! Love it!

I bought this dvd after watching it on Talking Pictures... channel a little while back. I hadn't seen it before, and was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it. Shot in black and white and showing some of the old tenement flats and markets in the East End it made a change from the usual pop films of this era. Harry H Corbett, Joe Brown, Marty Wilde, Susan Maughan and the ubiquitous Michael Ripper......I heartily recommend it. Great Stuff.

Brilliant for anyone wanting to reminisce about the si...xties and can remember the hit song of the title. Lots of it are quaint and completely out of touch with today but I love seeing the fashions and the small shops we used to use before the days of hypermarkets.

I was a teenager at that time, and it brings back ...so many memories. 1963 was also the year I met my wife. We’ve been together for 60 years. That’s why I love this film.
