Highly recommend this for children and those who are young at heart
I bought this for my own curiosity because I had seen the book and thought the creatures looked cute. I was delighted to see the story done so well as a DVD. The famous story about Max being sent to his room for threatening his mum "I'll eat you up" then he goes on an adventure and meets the Wild Things, thankfully they do not eat him up. This DVD also contains other stories and rhymes that are beautifully illustrated and great to sing along too. A must have for children and curious adults, a firm favourite in my DVD collection. I am now a fan of Max and the Wild Things and I will be purchasing more work my Maurice Sendak. This DVD compares well with some of my Dr Suess ones and I can happily watch them over and over.
Love Bagpuss? Then you'll love Carole King singing Maurice Sendak and more
It's only half an hour, but this is brilliant - none of your CGI, just old fashioned paper animation. You get a crazy cool version of Where The Wild Things Are, and the frankly surreal adventures of Mickey in In The Night Kitchen. In between you get the musical versions of the Nutshell Library stories - Alligators All Around, Pierre (who didn't care), Chicken Soup With Rice and One was Jonny, all charmingly animated and the music and singing is from Carole King. Amazing. This is totally worth hearing. Even for the 50th time when it's 5AM and they will not go back to sleep.
Where the wild things are DVD
I loved the original stories as a child and wanted to see the animated versions. My children really love watching the DVD and it is comparable to the style of the Gruffalo stories of today.
