Oche mats with gradients are available to ensure precision, but for friendly games or in restricted spaces these measurements can be approximated.

• Sisal: Professional dartboards are usually made from the fibres of the sisal plant. A thin wire is used to divide the scoring sections and also shaped into the corresponding numbers on the outer ring.
• Cork: This light and inexpensive material is popular with casual players. The colours in these boards are often non-traditional and you can choose one with an image on it, or have one made to order.
• Coiled paper: These dartboards are made of one continuous piece of paper tightly wrapped around a dowel rod. They're often double-sided, with the classic dartboard on one side and a concentric circle on the other. They're suitable for older supervised children or for anyone who wants a casual game on an affordable board.
• Electronic: Made from plastic and designed to look like a traditional dartboard, this uses soft-tipped darts, so it's suitable for children as well as adults. It's also programmed to appeal to all skill levels.
