Perhaps one of the best films that I have ever seen. It captures the spirit of the time, the emotions and considerations of the locals who were never sure of what to expect. It's all about the influx of GIs in the early 1940s, who were here for our benefit as well as the rest of Europe, and shows the resistance of some who just thought that Americans were loud and spendthrifts. It continues to capture the feelings of some of the women who loved to be spoiled by someone new, and the love that ultimately followed, albeit for a short period of time. The feeling of animosity that existed, even for years after the war, are prevalent and yet no-one seemed to realise that these Americans were in a strange land that they didn't want to be, fighting a war that wasn't theirs, and being put down by the local inhabitants. All in all, this is a film well worth watching.Read full review
The DVD was in very good condition and was a reasonable price. Enjoyed watching this film again, as I am a Richard Gere fan. I'm lending it out to my friends who also love Richard Gere.
