Tips for listing
Taking high quality photos
No expensive camera? Use your smartphone. Our app has tools that help you clean up your image and add a white background. When shooting, remember to choose a well-lit place, take photos from various angles, and capture blemishes to help the buyer avoid surprises.
Writing a great title
Titles help buyers find your listing. A good one can get you a sale, so we’ll help you write a great one that makes your listing stand out by recommending the keywords buyers use when searching. Be sure to avoid using all caps and focus on item specifics like brand, model, size and colour.
Choosing a buying format
The choice between Buy it now and Auction can depend on what you’re selling and how much of a hurry you’re in. We’ll make a recommendation, but if you’d prefer to let someone buy your item right away at your asking price, try Buy it now. Likewise, if you’re selling a collectible or want buyers to compete to decide what your item is worth, you might prefer Auction.
Setting the right price
When you list, we’ll recommend a price based on recent sales of similar items. If you’d rather decide for yourself, think like a buyer! Search around to see how other sellers are pricing their items. You can also let your buyers know you’re willing to negotiate by adding Best Offer to your listing.
Picking a delivery service
Based on what you’re selling, we provide recommendations for delivery and packaging. Once your item sells, you’ll get a discounted rate on postage by using eBay postage labels. To sell locally, you can also take advantage of our collection services.
How much does it cost to sell on eBay?
Once your item sells, we charge a final value fee based on the final transaction value, including postage. Your first 1,000 listings each month are free and, after, there’s a 35p insertion fee per listing. We might also charge additional fees if you choose optional upgrades. Learn more about fees
What’s the best way to send my item?
We’ll help you pick which delivery methods you want to offer, based on how others send similar items. By offering more than one delivery option, you'll be able to attract different types of buyers. Once the item has sold, you can purchase a label from eBay, which is pre-filled with your buyer’s address. When you print a postage label on eBay, you'll save money with the rates compared to what you'd pay to a courier for most services. You'll also save time by not having to queue. Pack your item, apply the label, and simply take it to the nearest drop-off location or have it collected.
Can I sell locally on eBay?
You can! When creating your listing, you can offer collection in person by selecting it as a delivery option. Once the buyer pays, they’ll receive a QR code and a 6-digit code, which you can scan or enter with the app to confirm the sale.
How much will it cost to post my item?
We provide a number of discounted delivery options through partnerships with major couriers. Review our eBay delivery postage rates to see how much it will cost to send your item. Consider building the postage cost into the item’s price, to appeal to buyers who are looking for free delivery.
How will the buyer pay for my item?
Payment on eBay happens automatically. We’ll help you determine what payment method you wish to accept upon listing your item. To help provide a safe experience, we only allow payment methods that offer strong protection for buyers and sellers.
How should I choose my listing price?
For most items, we can provide a price recommendation for you based on recently sold, similar items. How you price your item can depend on how you prefer to sell it, whether as an Auction or as a Buy it now listing. Choosing a lower starting price for auctions can help create more interest. If you use Best Offer, buyers will make you offers that you can accept or decline.
How does eBay protect sellers?
We understand that things can happen that are out of your control as a seller. When they do, we have your back. We protect you against abusive buyers, don’t make changes to the terms for your listing, and investigate sales issues to ensure fair outcomes for both sides.

To get started, select List an item. We’ll help you create and verify your account, and set-up payment information, during your first listing. You’ll want to have your preferred payment account details on hand and be ready to receive a call or text on your phone for verification during this step.
