About us

Focus on Phonics is for parents, carers, teachers around the world giving young children the best possible start in reading or helping older children who need catch-up support. We began in 2005, when the UK government adopted synthetic phonics as the preferred method of teaching reading and we have been supplying high quality resources to support early years learning ever since. We believe that teaching children by synthetic phonics provides the best foundation for successful reading and writing. We also recognise that not all children enjoy the process of learning to read. We have included materials that cater for older children with gaps in their phonic knowledge, whether this is due to a learning difficulty such as dyslexia, periods of ill health or anxiety issues. We have carefully chosen books and other resources that are suitable either for teachers in the classroom or for parents to use at home. This includes recently added resources to support early years maths learning.
