Love it! Don McLean is a brilliant songwriter/singer

I loved this album when I bought it as an LP in the 7os, and recently came across it again when having a clear-out. It crackled like crazy when I played it again but the magic was still there, so I decided to see if it was available in CD format. Once I discovered that it was I had to have it! I still love it and play it a lot. Don McLean is/was one hell of a songwriter; don't even know if he is still around and writing/singing. I think I should find out.Read full review...

Superb entertainment.

I already owned the album on vinyl, which I bought when it was first released. It's arguably still the best album made by Don and the tracks are excellent. Well recommended.

A real Classic.

I bought this CD mostly for the song Winterwood, which is a big favourite of mine, (we are talking 'Desert Island Disc' here) But enjoyed the rest of this CD so much, that it has stayed on my play list since. Of course 'American Pie' is the big hit, but 'Til tomorrow', 'Sister Fatima', 'Babylon', 'Empty Chairs', 'Crossroads', 'Vincent' and 'The Grave' are beautiful songs, but don't forget to giggle to 'Everybody loves, me (what's the matter with you?)'Read full review...

DON McLEAN-AMERICAN PIE

Having listened to the Vinyl version of this CD at college in the early seventies-oh sweet memories-I was delighted to be able to purchase the CD version with the same sleeve design.Everyone is familiar with "American Pie" and "Vincent" but there are two or three more excellent ballads on this CD such as "Til Tomorrow" about an anxious love affair-the very sad "Empty Chairs" about lost love and the best track on the CD "Crossroads" which is simply quite haunting in performance and with superb lyrics proving that Don Mclean is a true songsmith.Any gripes well perhaps EMI could have been clever and added the long version of "American Pie" or the later hit "Crying" or even one of the best ever original single B sides "Castles in the Air" but these are available on other albums and to be honest it is just nice to get original Vinyl on to CD without being altered or tampered with.Read full review...

Beautiful album

Don McLean is matched only by Bob Dylan for his poetical lyrics. The tracks range from the classic American Pie, to the timelessly beatiful Vincent, to the cheekily upbeat Everybody Loves Me Baby (Whats the Matter With You?).Check them out on Youtube first if you haven't heard these songs before; you will see what I mean! The other tracks provide a mental massage of soothing rhythms which will help to slow down your day and make you appreciate the good things in life.

100% perfect.
