Next gen Fallout!

Fallout 4, the latest iteration in the Fallout series, is definitely next gen Fallout. Graphics, gameplay and AI all are superior to Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Unlike FO3 and NV that consist of mostly drab, monochromatic hues, FO 4 bursts with color. The sky is a brilliant blue, giant buildings stand out in reds and oranges and foliage coloration is varied. Except for the NPCs - the one Achilles heel in Fallout 4's visuals - the graphics are beautiful. Water looks particularly nice. Weather is also rendered well with fog, mist, rain and forbidding thunderstorms, that can be dangerous when a radiation storm rolls through!

AI is smarter, NPCs use cover well, flanking your player with the usual verbal barbs thrown in. Unlike FO 3 and NV, enemies are not detected long distances away (giving you time to plan out your attack strategy). You're only alerted once they detect you, usually when you're a good deal closer. Despite it's beauty, the Commonwealth (that's larger than the acreage in FO3 and NV) is truly a scary place! Rad scorpions and mole rats explode out of the ground in front of you! Ghouls will play dead until you're right up on them, then rise up and burst at you! Swarms of stingwings spread out, attacking at once from different angles. Of course, deathclaws are back and even more fearsome. Then there's 20 ft. tall behemoths that, despite being level 30, I give a wide berth!

As with the previous Fallouts, there's a wide range of interesting characters, quests and side quests with humor thrown in that produced regular chuckles. There's a new building system allowing the player to modify and improve settlements with a wide variety of crafting, including buildings, weapon mods, power generators, lighting, etc. Though well done (and could be a game in itself) you're given little instruction on the complex system. I had to frequently consult online sources to figure out workshop crafting. Weapons no longer degrade (that I'm happy they got rid of), lock picking is harder (I found it too easy in FO 3 and NV) and ammo and food aren't as plentiful. All-in-all I found FO 4 to be a much more difficult and satisfying game.

Not for me

I like first person shooters like Bioshock 1 and 2, Rage, Singularity, and the Crysis series. Simple weapons, uncomplicated play. In Fallout 4, there's too much running around just finding things, then combining them to help you. It's just not my type of fun game.Read full review...

Great game - still some bugs

An excellent follow up to Fallout 3 and New Vegas. The new Boston locale is a terrific choice. Game play is very immersive- it can take a while to learn how to craft/modify items but once you get the hang of it, you can easily get lost for hours at a time just exploring and acquiring quests. Sometimes it is really cool to read about the quests in wiki just to get more background into the characters. The only downside to the game is that settlements require lots of attention and building items to keep them happy. Kinda wish they could be setup and forget 'em. Otherwise, game physics and mechanics are excellent. VATS targeting is very satisfying. And once you get a favorite weapon modded to your liking, it remains a go-to for pretty much most of the game. Fallout 4 is well worth the price of admission. Warning though, even if you purchase the physical disc, you will still need to download over 22GB of game data.Read full review...

Fallout 4

This is a RPG/First Person open world game. It is not an MMORPG yet so it is Person vs. NPC.

- The graphics are good but not stellar.
I used a GTX Titan Gen 1 card on Ultra at 1080p and got 30-60 FPS. The issue is in the details. For me it was the ears. They looked like graphics you would get from a game put out 5 years ago not one created today.

- There are some notable bugs.
An example would be when you are in Windowed Mode you can not pick locks as the lock will not appear. This is not a problem in full screen mode. Also there is a problem with the Pip-Boy not showing when you are crouched and hidden. I have heard of others but hopefully patches will take care of them.

- The game play is superb.
Besides the little bugs and other issues, the game play more than makes up. The shooting functions are much improved making it feel a lot like a first person shooter when it comes to battles. There are a number of companions which will help you along the way.

- Map size is huge.
The map is not as large as Sky rim but is still large enough to keep you engaged for hours.

- Colonies are awesome.
This game has colonies that allow you to make little plantations or colonies which you can construct structures to support them and create defenses to protect them. You could just play with creating colonies without even getting into the main story.

I would give it an 8 out of 10 and if they came out with patches to the for mentioned I would go as far as to give it a 9.

Great game!

I loved this game on PS4 so much that I bought a new computer to play the PC version and explore the wide world of mods. This game plays well and the graphics are fantastic. Typical Bethesda game so there are a few glitches or bugs in the game, but those have almost been patched out. It is worth the purchase in my opinion. The open world and countless quests along with the main storyline give you hours upon hours of gameplay. Read full review...

10/10 On Gameplay and Content(in other words all of it is phenomenal)

So this game was the main reason behind me buying a brand new gaming computer and gear, and here iam 1200$ later and Fallout 4 is one of the sickest games ive ever played. Concept wise its awesome the story line is flawless and you emotionally feel connected throughout the game to whats going on in the commonwealth. I Mean the crafting and Settlement building is the god damn bread and butter people. its like a sore d-i-c-k you cant beat it!!!! I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves skyrim as the play style is nearly identical. But the amount of options this game leaves you with is massive and your always discovering something new or hidden as well as being sucked into your settlement management which is pretty damn fun if your good at scavenging the map. As far as the seller this game came to me within days of my initial order, i will 100% be buying from these guys in the future. - EricRead full review...

Fallout 4

It doesn't matter if people say New Vegas or Fallout 3 was better, in my opinion this Fallout definitely beats NV and 3 in graphical AND mission comparison. Only a few quirks from this installment make it an annoying, repeating process yet with that ignored the gameplay itself will hold a person over for days. The DLC is also fairly worth a look at as it expands the base game as well as gives you more crafting ability. Mods on PC are also more available than the console and as far as I know don't lock out getting achievements.Read full review...

20+ hours in, simply addicting, definitely the best game I've played in years.

It's a mix-up on Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, I would definitely say it's more engaging than the two and it has some new unique systems in the game that are extremely interesting and considerably add to the gameplay.

The story (as far as I've reached) is a new twist on the Fallout series (in a very good way), it's added new surprises unlike past (main) storylines that were quite predictable and tedious at times.

Some real notable mentions is that you can actually hear you're own character talk which adds an unexplainable amount of improvement to the game as simple as that is, the perk system is now a tree-like system which makes your character much more customizable to your needs, a very indepth building mode is avaliable (highly recommend trying) so you can build and populate your own city(s) and weapons/armor has a considerably improved modding/attachment system.

Other smaller notable additions: Companions are undoubtably more interactive, graphics are insane, more interactive world, map seems to be bigger, many enemies have more engaging 'hiding' / realistic surprise tactics, seemingly random 'bosses' avaliable to fight for special equipment and the theme area has a very appealing/interesting map.

As far as I've gotten, I've only came across one feature that I would say is a down-grade from past games, they've removed the faction system that was seen in New Vegas, I actually quite enjoyed that system but for whatever reason, it seems to have been removed.

Great game but has MANY requirements

This is a great game but make sure your computer meets all the minimum requirements. I thought I had checked all the specs, but missed the graphics card requirement and so I cannot play this game on my current computer. Very disappointed ... mostly in myself for not checking everything before spending so much on a game.Read full review...
