The Giver; an engaging film that gives insight into the posibilities for mistakes in our future.

A systematic view of a utopian society that fails in normal human emotional behaviors. It shows how over regulation of life requirements by a handful of government leaders can overreach the levels of humanity in favor of homeostasis. Only the "Giver" of memories to a specially selected youth can hope for regeneration of normalcy in human life.
The cast is well balanced and work well together to illuminate the failures of a utopian society. Scenery is well thought out, and also demonstrates what is missing in this future world. The script is well written and deserves praise for not overly pressing its message. The original book reading by the Bridges family in the special extras is well done, as it was primarily written for children.Read full review

Semi Entertaining with great actors

I hear the book is very different from the movie. My daughter wanted this because of a school project. She had to compare the movie to the book. Everyone seems to be in agreement that the book is much better. The movie, to me, was good but not great. I like Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges. They both did a great job in the movie.
