Glengarry Glen Ross (DVD, 2003)
A film about salesmen that sells itself wonderfully!
If you look at the DVD cover the film boasts an impressive cast of Al Pacino (as Ricky Roma), Jack Lemmon (as Shelley Levene), Alec Baldwin (as Blake), Alan Arkin (as George Aaronow), Ed Harris (as Dave Moss), Kevin Spacey (a...s John Williamson) and Jonathan Pryce (as James Lingk)...hmmmm...nice but there is more.
This movie is a day in the life account of a team salesmen trying to make a living selling real estate to reluctant clients. The acting is superb...the dialogue is clever and gripping. The movie has a dark, dry and claustrophobic feel to it that makes it intense and perfect for the stage...but also translates well to the big screen.
All the actors give big performances so you won't be disappointed. Have I sold it to you? I also recommend as a companion to this movie - "Prime Gig" starring Ed Harris and Vince Vaughan, as salesmen, both give equally good performances and the movie feels like a prelude to the aforementioned movie.Read full review
Swingers (DVD, 1999)
A defining movie for a generation
This movie is awesome. Essentially a coming of age movie where Mikey (played by Jon Favreau, splits up with his girlfriend and leaves NY starts up in LA as a struggling actor (life imitating art?!) and needs his fast talking,... ladies man, buddy - Trent (played by Vince Vaughan)to help him find his feet again. Soon they are hitting the town in search of "a good time". This movie is a classic not only because Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughan both star and give ensemble performances, their on-screen banter and comedy having you in stitches, or the reality of the sharp and witty script.Or because it co-stars a the lovely Heather Graham, who acts the part of Mikey's love interest to perfection. Or the filimography, capturing the busy, chic, cliquey LA nightlife, beautifully. None of these swing it entirely, the movie is a intricate woven tapestry of the love lost, heartbreak and new love found in a fast paced , well written, beautifully acted movie. I thoroughly recommend this movie. Its the money!!Read full review
