Underwelmed
1 of 2 found this helpful Needed a 1" belt sander for several small projects. Was undecided between a cheap $60-70 sander from several sources, and the more expensive blue one for about double the money. Decided on the Wen for about $90. I guess underwhelmed would be my assessment of this machine. I ran it for about 20 minutes unloaded as a break-in, the motor got quite warm, and now there is an electrical smell when it runs. Still runs OK though, for now. I removed the 3 small belt guard screws, and replaced them with some round thumb screws to make it quicker to replace belts.
Pros and cons:
Cons: - First of all, much is plastic. The belt guard, tracking/tension assembly, adjustment knobs, etc.
- The tool rest plates are very poorly machined aluminum.
- Not a ton of power. It can be bogged down sanding wood.
- 3 small screws and a knob need to be removed or loosened on every belt change.
- To remove the round tool rest, the entire clamping assembly needs to be dismantled.
Pros: - The base seems to be some sort of metal, don't know what. A magnet will not stick to it.
- A magnet will stick to the motor housing. The motor is fairly quiet.
- It tracks nicely. The tracking adjustment works, and the belt runs true.
Overall, for what it is, you might as well save $20 or so and get one of the cheaper priced sanders that are essentially the same thing.

Nice set of screws
The Kreg pocket hole jigs require specific screws to make pocket hole joints attach correctly. This set contains the most popular sizes and types of screws needed for the majority of pocket hole joints. The case is very nice, of quality construction, and the lid fits down tight enough so you can carry the set by its handle and the screws don't shift into other compartments. If you are just getting started into Kreg pocket hole joinery, get this set to have an assortment of the most used screws.

OK for the $$$, but needs a little work.
Decent product for the money, but you'll need to work on it first. All 6 threaded holes for the inserts are threaded too short, won't tighten up the inserts. Used a tap (I think it was M4 x 0.7), and threaded 1.5 more turns. 4 of the 6 holes were placed correctly, and one was too high and one was too low (about .0005 inch). Since you should only be using 3 of the 6 insert locations, that can be dealt with. The rest of the mill was nicely machined, the mounting hole was perfectly placed, and the insert mounting area were flat on all 6 locations.
