Sony CDP-C75ES 5 Disc CD Player High Density Linear Converter

Classic CD Sound
I absolutely love playing my CDs through this device. Of course, it is by the inventor of the CD and is manufactured during a time when sound quality seemed more pure...and this is said manufacturer's "Elite" line (ES)... Although I am replacing it in my main system for a Marantz (to match my Receiver...yes, I'm a bit OCD about these matters), I do not foresee me giving this player up for anything. I will likely incorporate this into my bedroom sound system...might even get a SonyES receiver to match--and I'm not really a fan of Sony Receivers). The stereo separation is absolutely beautiful and the mechanism is dependable and quiet (after, what, TWENTY-FIVE years...talk about dependable...I personally prefer players from this era, though, because of their longevity and adherence to flat sound)...even when I''m drinking and feeling nostalgic. The lights on the Play and Pause button are a very nice touch...makes playing CDs a serious affair...which it is (I love music...can you tell?). If you can find this player for a good price ($40-$70), don't hesitate. Even buying a "new" modern player for $100+ does not guarantee this level of quality (build and sound). Mine didn't come with a remote (sadly)...as it would be nice if I could dim the otherwise beautiful LCD display. If it means anything to you, I dim all of my LCD displays, so it may be more of personal preference disappointment than general annoyance. Get it, get it, get!

These are not the Live series...the sound is balanced and remarkably unremarkable. Perhaps more for mixing and recording. Not extrevery loud, bass, but detailed and comfortable to wear. The earbuds are more expressive in this series.

Just What I Needed
Great machine. Fast, quiet and seemingly reliable enough to keep on 24/7 (with Xeon and ECC, of course...just for good measure). The PCI-E slots are plentiful, and the six sata connections (2 @ 3.0, 4 @ 2.0) should be "just enough" for a small server... The machine runs very, very quiet for how powerful it is, and the front-accessed bays perfectly fit my chosen devices. Inside, there is one 6-pin connector for a graphics card and an extra pciex4 slot (Gen2) just above where you would normally install your graphics card, so there's room for responsibilities in this machine.
