Panasonic DMW-FL580 Hybrid Flash System with Built-in Video LED (Black)

Best flash ever

This flash in powerful with a guide number as high as 191. Yet, when I'm in close, it automatically reduces the light output by many stops. The reflector automatically refocus the light to narrow the beam when I change the zoom on my camera lens. It fully illuminates the field of view with a 12mm lens (24mm fun frame equivalent) and when I am shooting birds with my 100-400mm it narrows the beam to a 100mm coverage. I can fill flash an outdoor photo at over 40 feet and with the FP (pulse mode) use shutter speeds between 1/500 and 1/1000 of a second. It is fully automatic on my GX8 (and other) Lumix camera. I also like the swivel head. Bounce flash give great natural illumination in many indoor settings. To my surprise, the flash is smaller than the FL500 I replaced it with. I do not shoot video but I have set the LED lamp (below the flash head) to manual. I use it as a flash light, controlled by the manual On/OFF button. I also like the diffuser that was supplied with the flash and the mounting stand that can be used with the RC (wireless) mode.

Good product

A simple piece of hardware. It does its job. Just drill an accurate 3/16 hole and press it in. It does not take much force to get it in solidly into aluminum.

Incredible lens

This lens is incredibly sharp. (I ran bench tests with a test chart.) It provides fast focus and very high contrast with no visible distortion, edge to edge. I am replacing my 35-100mm f/2.8 with this lens because with the added reach to 200mm (400mm equivalent) I can use it for wildlife, not just landscape. What I great cary around lens for street photos without intruding on the subject.
