Workers and Farmers Goveernment
Discussion of the nature and application of a workers and farmers government in general and as applied to Cuba in the pre-1990s. Discusses the issue from a theoretical and applied view, e.g., how it might be instituted in the US. The Cuban example is best understood in the historical sense before the changes in the 1990s and beyond. Recommended for both novices and more experienced readers in the subject.

Harriet Tubman leading Civil War military intelligence operative
Harriet Tubman was the chief military intelligence operative for the Army of the Potomac. Her missions into enemy territory (Virginia, North & South Carolina), according to General Grant, was "worth many regiments to the northern forces." She and her scouts set up intelligence networks among slaves and free Blacks who in turn reported on Confederate army troop size, movements and fortifications. Her previous experience freeing and ferrying slaves via the Underground Railroad was preparation for her Civil War duties of traversing behind Confederate lines, Because many intelligence records were destroyed after the war to protect Union secret operatives, many of her spying activities are lost to history. Her intelligence activities eventually led her to become the only woman in the US to plan, organize and lead an amphibious assault. This was under her command by the Union Navy and Black troops on the coast of South Carolina. This is remarked upon by the US Marine Corps Command & Staff College as well as by the CIA.

How Southern Confederate values impact today's politics
1 of 1 found this helpful Starting with 1600s England, the author weaves the history of America through all its major periods to the present. Via the lens of class, race and gender she examines the conflict between the oligarchs (capitalist rulers) and democracy with the ideology of the Southern reconstruction oligarchy finally winning out. By examining the development of the North, South and West the author traces the spread of the dominant ideology of inequality and individualism and its impact on racial/ethnic minorities, small farmers, cowboys and ranch hands, and workers. Relying on data she punctures myths and shows the real conditions of the latter and the dominance of the oligarchs. Most interestingly the author follows the thread from Confederate ideology to its expression in present-day politics.
