They All Love Jack : Busting the Ripper Paperback Bruce Robinson

A rampage through Ripperolgy
I’m afraid that I do find this awful case fascinating. There seems to be, self evidently, something wrong with the police investigation. That has been clear for decades and I do think the book ‘Five’ is very important and must be read to counter balance any consideration of the crimes. That being said, and with all due respect to Mr Rumbelow, this is the most extraordinarily well researched insight that I have ever read. The exposure of police and, apparently, Masonic corruption is utterly compelling. The reassessment of the ‘Ripper’ letters astonishing and the exploration of the possibility that the murders continued extremely well argued. I love the anger and indignation in the telling, how the author is both clear headed and yet emotionally involved. I draw back a little from his suspect and almost wish the book rested on its exposure of misconduct. The suspect rests on circumstantial evidence and I am no more satisfied than many other suspects. Having said that, he makes a compelling case for the prosecution. Apart from all that, anyone who wrote and directed ‘Withnail and I’ deserves our grateful respect and admiration . This was an old story told in a vigorous new way.
