Metra 99-9229G Single/Double DIN Dash Kit for 2001 - 2004 Volvo S60/V70 (Gray)

Best of a bad bunch
I found it a real struggle to find a decent adapter for my early model 2001 V70 (most of them are the later facelift models with black interior instead of grey). Volvo does stock an official adapter which was made for the emergency services to replace the stereo with 2-way radio and other equipment designed for the DIN profile, but it's well over £100 and I couldn't justify the cost at the time, especially when this item looked just right. Unfortunately, the fascia plastic is very thin, not quite the right shape (although not far off, it's just a tight fit in the corners) and doesn't have the alignment mouldings to stop it moving & flaxing in the dash. The mounting bracket is also a very tight fit (I found it awkward to get the bolt holes lined up) and isn't as secure as the original cast aluminium part fitted by Volvo. All of the parts supplied in the kit fit together very well and although I can't comment on the storage bin in the vehicle, as I'm using a double-DIN stereo, it does seem to fit well and be made of good quality plastic. Unfortunately, the mounting bracket doesn't come with fittings to secure the stereo in place, so make sure you've got some appropriate fitting screws for your stereo before trying to fit this. Lastly, the recess around the DIN opening for the plastic finishing bezel doesn't have any clip recesses moulded into it. Because the unit it slightly curved to match the Volvo dashboard, the bezel won't sit flush. This item will do the job out of the box, and it will look okay once in place. For the money, it really is pretty good, but it's not perfect. I have made some adaptations to improve the fit (felt tape top & bottom to reduce squeak & movement, and I've cut a lip into the DIN opening to clip the bezel into) but if you can justify the cost of the official Volvo part, I'd probably recommend you go for that instead.

Attractive, slim, light, waterproof, feature-rich & quick. Enough said.
I bought the Sony Xperia Tablet Z to replace my dead Asus Transformer (which I had been very happy with for 3 years). After reading many reviews, I had settled on the Sony for its slim and light form factor, but also the waterproof feature. Since receiving the product, I have since found some other features particularly useful. The IR-blaster means the tablet is also my universal remote control and the ability to pair it with my phone for calls, text messages, etc. is fantastic. I get funny looks when I tell people I use my premium Android tablet in the shower, but it works really well for listening to music, watching a TV show or reading a book in the bath, or just not having to worry about using it in the rain or by the pool. The only issue is that the touch sensor doesn't work very well in the wet. It sometimes mistakes a water droplet for a finger & vice versa. My only other complaint is that the (very long-lasting) battery takes aeons to charge, so if you do run out of juice, expect to be no more than three feet from a power outlet for the rest of the day! Performance-wise, it's the quickest & smoothest device I've ever used. I've had it a while now and it hasn't stuttered once, is highly responsive and has so far been 100% reliable. So, it's fast, smart looking, thinner & lighter than an iPad, does more than pretty much any other tablet on the market (save for the newer Sony devices) and won't mind being rinsed under the tap after you use it as your recipe book in the kitchen. Worth every penny!
