Good little set for early readers
This is a great little set for KS1 emerging readers who are keen to have more practice at home. The books cover lots of different phonics sounds and can be read with a parent or alone depending on proficiency. They provide a nice break from the Biff and Chip books and Julia Donaldson's stories are reasonably entertaining (for short phonics books).

Works very well, but it's fragile and does not survive minor falls!
After experiencing various different hamster balls that allowed the hamster to escape (!) we were very pleased to find this one which was a good price and nicely secure. Properly clear as well - and the hamster was very happy with it. However, after just 2 days, it rolled off a surface (0.63m high) where it had been put down while the hamster was being put back. It fell onto a carpeted floor, and all 4 of the little lugs holding the two halves together sheared off at once. :( Turns out it's made from really brittle plastic.
Given that it's a product that's going to be handled by young owners quite a lot, I'd have expected a bit more durability and I can't recommend it. I certainly wouldn't buy another one despite all its good features.

Genuine Hama beads at a good price
We bought these to complement the set of beads we were given in a giant tub from IKEA which didn't have any light pinks to use for skin-colour in the models my daughter wanted to make. These genuine Hama beads have smaller holes in the middle than the lookalike ones so they have a slightly different look on the melted side but they work fine together.
We looked at buying these straight from the Hama bead website but the postage makes it uneconomical. These prices are similar but with reasonable postage which is a helpful service to the small buyer.
