Honeywell A083-00-SD or A083-00-02 Ethernet Module IB
03 Sep, 2019
Galaxy Flex Ethernet module version summary
The first Ethernet module was the E080-2. This product was very stable and has lasted many years. The firmware is no longer updated, so not very compatible with the latest Dimension panel. Also doesn't offer virtual keypad on the G2 series panels. The next module was the E080-4 and the A083-00-01 for Flex only. These module variants suffer from a CPU chip issue and Texas Instruments who make the CPU no longer produce it due to the issue. Some will work, but I don't advise buying older versions at more than £35 now. The E080-2 and E080-4 also suffer from a problem where they will cause the panel to fail/reboot on any Syn Flood network attack. There is no fix for this other than upgrading to the newer modules. The E080-8 and A083-00-02 for Flex only are new versions with fixes for the syn-flood attack. There are no chip problems, as Honeywell moved to an Atmel ARM chip. The E080-10 / A083-00-10 (Flex) are similar to the E080-8 / A083-00-02 (flex), but have a bigger Flash chip for future firmwares. The LCE-01-4 from SM-Alarms was an alternative module for G2 and Dimension panels. It enabled low cost reporting and comms fail suppression options. It also offered virtual keypad control on the G2 series. It's no longer available.

Galaxy Dimension GD-48 Alarm Control Panel C048-C-E5
13 Jun, 2016
Solid, capable and reliable panel from Honeywell.
The Galaxy 48 is the entry Dimension panel and has a host of features. The 48 is pretty much geared for business premises, but due to the features and reliability, many use this instead of the G2 and Flex range for their domestic installation. Don't get me wrong, the Flex is a capable panel, but isn't as revered as the Dimension with it's traditional PSU and reliable PCB. As I said, many are using in the domestic situation, and this is due to the additional features like links and groups. These features make the panel capable of light weight home automation tasks like controlling lights and opening garage doors. Pair these functions with the IP modules and you have remote control automation from your phone. Watch out for non English variants (E1 is English, other E versions like E5 are French) and Dimension cases being sold with old G3-48 boards in. The original Dimension board is used as an upgrade, with the old non dimension board sold in the new case. G3-48 is not a Dimension. If you have the cash, go for the 96, 264 or 520 panels. They have even more capability and allow you to extend your system for a good few years to come! Again, ensure it's the right board that the seller is selling.
