Dutch Prog Rock - Satisfying But Not Essential
Mellow Dutch progressive rock dominated by mellotron and female vocals, somewhere between good and average - but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.
I bought this CD because I'd heard the title track - a brilliant multi-segmented 18 minute opus. The organ-propelled 'Storm and Thunder' is also excellent.
On balance however, the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to this standard. It does have some lovely melancholic moments. Probably worth having. Satisfying but not essential.

Out Of The Rut - And Into The Groove
As the owner of all the Supergrass albums, I was a little disappointed with Road to Rouen. I took a little more care before purchasing this one by listening to some of the tracks on Youtube first. To my mind however, this is a return to energetic form. Supergrass have proven with this album that they are the most consistent and long-lived of any of the Britpop bands of old. Worth buying.
If you want a flavour of the album, listen to the first two tracks - Diamond Ho Ha Man and Bad Blood.

Another Great But Overlooked Pysch/Prog Band
Originally issued in 1970 on Larry Page's Penny Farthing label, Octopus' music is perhaps the missing link between late 60's psychedelia and early 70's prog rock - with a foot(or perhaps four!)in each camp.
The songs have strong melodies and the singing is excellent throughout. My two favourite tracks are 'Council Plans' (one of the 'psych' tracks) and 'Tide' (one of the 'prog' tracks).
The 'plus' in this case represents the bonus tracks issued as singles, but not on the original vinyl album. They are "The River" and "Thief" plus "Laugh at the poor man" and "Girlfriend".
Another excellent band from the period that were sadly overlooked, but are well worth listening to and having in your collection
